The Pond

There’s nothing George likes better than a pond to fiddle about with!!  Goes back to boyhood days collecting sticklebacks in a jam jar!

The rectangular concrete planting area had been used by the original owner for fruit/veg but we felt it would make a good base for the new wildlife pond.  George drew the short straw and did the digging!!

We lined the pond with sand, then an old carpet to prevent the butyl liner from being punctured by stones.

We added aerating plants to keep the pond and the fish healthy, a water lily for it’s sheer beauty and some marginal plants on the left for the wildlife to crawl into.

The pond was soon filled with frogs, toads and newts, plus we have dragonflies and pond-skaters.  The fish must be happy too as they are breeding.

We are planning a larger pond – one day…!
